Our Story

“Waroeng” translates to a pop-up shop or stall in Bahasa Indonesia, and it serves as a meaningful reflection of my diverse cultural heritage. Having been raised by my mother from Java, known for its vibrant street food culture, and my father from Ambon, recognized as the Island of Spice, I have been fortunate to immerse myself in the best of both culinary traditions for 22 years. . In Indonesia, I was affectionately known as “Nona,” or “Missy” in Ambonese—a name that conveys warmth and respect. This unique cultural blend inspires me to thoughtfully celebrate and integrate the culinary treasures of both Java and Ambon into my initiatives, with the aim of sharing these flavours with a broader audience.
The phrase “Waroeng Nona,” meaning “Nona’s Shop” or “Nona’s Stall,” reflects my commitment to empowering women to pursue their aspirations. My journey began during the lockdown, and I believe this experience demonstrates that others can embark on their paths as well.
